Interactive Media Workshop 1
The practical side, my favourite side. In Semester 1 we covered photography, video, Flash and Dreamweaver. We had a lecture or two on aspects of photography - how to frame a photograph, how to choose your subject and then a few classes on Photoshop. We were able to use the fantastic cameras from the IDC which was a boon - it's hard to take a bad picture with a good camera. Easy to take a boring one though...
In the video module Rachel Thunder gave a few lectures on choosing subject matter, staging scenes and on editing using Sony Vegas. We formed groups based on suggested film scripts and shot the 3 minute movies in-camera.
I used Dreamweaver to build this site, along with CSS. I hadn't used style sheets much before, but making a whole, functioning website really helped to get my head around them. This is website Version 2, I wasn't really happy with the first, it was too chunky and didn't allow for expansion. Doing it again, I found the process moved much faster and I'm fairly pleased with this one.
Flash - I really enjoyed learning Flash and found ActionScript easy enough to get to grips with from having done the C++ module. I've wanted to know Flash for a while but was a bit lazy about putting time into it. I always find it's easier to learn something when you have a project that MUST be done.
