Interactive Media Workshop 2

This semester the Workshop class will cover Director and 3D Studio Max, which I'm really looking forward to as I'm not familar with 3D stuff at all. I've used Director before but in getting back into it this week I've learned loads.

There are two pages of Director stuff here. The biggest thing I did was an mp3 player that uses an xtra to open music files on your PC. (Incidentally, these projectors are for the PC, I didn't want to waste space having two versions of each. And I don't like Macs). The mp3 was a great one to do as I really got a feel for how a project might be put together in Director.

3D max was a great package to learn - very steep learning curve when you come to it for the first time though. I spent days on a tutorial or two that the references said would take an hour - it can be incredibly frustrating, but once you get into it and can start to find your own way around it's a kick-ass program.

I did attempt some PD stuff, but Brain and I disagreed on this one. I was interested but it ran screaming from the room at the sight of all those strange and incomprehensible words. I don't get ‘music-stuff' and I get ‘electronics-stuff' even less. Combine the two and the result is as impenetrable to me as the mind of God. I had some serious words with Brain but in the end we agreed to disagree. PD would have to remain unknown to me.

In the end, I did get my File I/O on in the mp3 player.
